What is cold-pressed, and how does your juicing process work?
At Tasty6, all of our fresh produce drinks are produced using a hydraulic press – using a cold-pressing process where minimal exposure to oxygen occurs, and no heat is applied, but 9,000 pounds of pressure. As opposed to a normal "centrifugal" juicer which takes a whole fruit or vegetable and squeezes out the juice while expelling a lot of the pulp with a lot of juice, nutrients, and minerals in them, a hydraulic press actually grinds the produce wholly into a fine pulp, after which it applies up to 9,000 pounds of pressure to this pulp, extracting every ounce of nutrients, enzymes and minerals that the fruit or vegetable can possibly yield. The results are nutritious and intensely tasty juices. The gentle pressing action allows for little to no air to be introduced into the juice, and because of this each bottle can be kept in sealed, refrigerated containers with little loss of taste, nutrients, or color.
Are your ingredients organic and non-GMO? YES - we are the only USDA organic certified juice company in DC/MD/VA!
We are the only USDA Organic Certified Cold-Pressed Juice Company in the DMV area - we are certified by CCOF. CCOF verfies our organic certification, and we carry the CCOF logo "Certified Organic is Non-GMO and more". We believe that it is important that all the ingredients are as free from toxic pesticides as possible – as in cold-pressed juices the essence of the ingredients gets passed into your system, straight up! In addition, studies have now shown conclusively that organic produce has significantly higher amounts of nutrients and antioxidants than conventional produce. Therefore, no use spending a lot of money on juices made with non-organic ingredients. At least not from our point of view! Our juices are very nutrient dense, and should be this way to give you the most Goodness nature offers.
Why are your juices expensive?
Expensive is a relative word — as each of our juices has between 3 to 5 pounds of vegetables and fruits pressed into them, all organic and non-GMO — to get the best tasting, most nutritious, and delicious juice. But consider a slightly more expensive than an "Extra Large Latte" at your coffee shop, but with a whole lot more kick to it.
Where do you manufacture your juices?
In our plant in Kensington, Maryland, just outside the Beltway — very local indeed!
What makes Tasty6 juices different from what I can buy at my local grocery store?
Most juice on grocery store shelves is pasteurized with high heat to reduce pathogens, either through high heat pasteurization or flash-pasteurization, a process that heats the juice to high temperatures. If they use more gentle and non-destructive methods of pathogen reduction, then they mostly have traveled from across the USA and are not local nor are they as recently produced as our juices. Our juices are raw, USDA organic certified, and filled with nutrients.
More importantly, our juices are uniquely designed to merge Western nutritional science focusing on key functionalities of the ingredients, combining it with an Ayurvedic (a 5,000 year old Eastern Healing Philosophy) principle of having 6 tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent) in every juice to make it more balancing, nutritious and satiating.
What is the shelf life of your juice?
The juices are fresh for between 20 to 35 days, depending on the juice. Every juice has an expiration date printed on it. Once we produce the juice by cold-pressing it with 9 tons of hydraulic pressure, we submit it to an ice cold water bath (33 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit) for a brief moment at high pressure - a technique known as cold-water pressuring, which eliminates harmful bacteria but keeps the juice raw, and nutrients, enzymes, vitamins and minerals intact - and of course, the taste. This makes our juices very safe to drink, even if you should have a compromised immune system. At the same time keeping the juices raw, healthy, nutritious and alive!
How fresh is your juice?
We press and bottle several times a week to ensure that you are drinking raw, healthy, and highest quality juice.
Where should I store my juice?
Always store your juice in the refrigerator at less than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. If you buy a juice, either drink it or place it directly into the refrigerator.
How many calories are in your juices?
Although we don't believe in calorie counting, we know it is a concern for many individuals. However, please consider that our juices use only pure, organic ingredients, and consist of raw, enzyme-rich and are very nutrient dense. All calories and any sugars and calories are a product of the distillation of these fruits and vegetables. Nothing artificial – they are complex sugars and carbohydrates, slowly broken down by the body, compared to artificial or added sugars.
Our aim is to help people become more aware of their day-to-day food choices and less concerned with counting calories.
We have provided nutritional labels for all out juices on our web page with the individual juices, and they range between 90 to 175 calories per juice per bottle, with zero of them from fat.
What if I have a medical condition or take prescription medication?
Please consult with your healthcare professional if you have a medical condition or take prescription medicine before drinking our products. That said, our juices help nourish your body to maintain optimal health, ward off disease, and are an excellent addition to alternative paths of healing if you have any serious health challenges. Also, given that we use cold-water pressuring technique to make sure our juice is free from harmful bacteria if enjoyed by the "Best By" date, it is also fine for people to drink it who might have a compromised immune system.
What if I have a gluten allergy?
All of our juices are gluten-free.
Is Tasty6 juice vegan?
Our products are 100% vegan. No animal products are used in any of our products.
How much juice should I drink?
This always depends on your personal preference and health goals. In order to experience the full benefits of our products, we recommend incorporating juice into your daily diet regularly.
Why do you use plastic bottles?
We have thought about this long and hard, but arrived at the conclusion that our BPA-free plastic bottles are at the moment a better choice for us. Glass bottles are expensive to produce, to recycle, and use more energy in transport and the production process. We have chosen highest quality BPA-free bottles, no leaching of chemicals into the juices. They are easy to recycle.
